This page explains what information Fan Points handles and where it is kept. In short: student information stays in each school's own Google account. Fan Points (us) does not collect or store student names, emails, grades, check-ins or photos on our own systems.
This website
gofanpoints.com is an information page. It has no sign-in, no forms and no advertising or tracking tools, and we do not set cookies. If you email us, we receive your email address and message so we can reply.
The Fan Points app at a school
Each school runs Fan Points inside its own Google account (Google Apps Script and Google Sheets). The school decides who uses it and what it keeps. Information such as students' names, grades, check-ins, points, rewards, rosters, game statistics and approved player photos is stored in that school's Google account, under the school's control and subject to the school's own policies and Google's terms.
- Students sign in with their school Google account. Parents and fans sign in to the school's fan site with an email address and a one-time code.
- Public pages show a player's first name and last initial only, and only when the team shares its stats and the player allows it. Player photos are shown only after two staff members approve them.
- A school can download or delete its information at any time, because it is in the school's own account.
What our licence server receives
Fan Points runs a licence server that schools' apps contact. It receives only what is needed to run the service:
- The school's licence check (which school's copy is asking) and the app version it runs.
- Health information so we can fix problems: error notes with names, emails, links and long numbers removed.
- Problem reports sent with the "Report a problem" button: a role such as "Coach" or "Student", the page and the message, never the person's name or email.
- For games linked between two Fan Points schools: game details, scores and plays with jersey numbers and public names only.
- For weather warnings: the school's street address and game times. Our server looks up the address with the U.S. Census Bureau's address service and gets the forecast for that location from the U.S. National Weather Service.
The licence server never receives a student's name or email address.
Live video
When a school streams a game, the video is on the school's own YouTube channel. Fan Points adds score graphics over it. Players can choose to appear by jersey number only. Schools are responsible for their media release forms.
Children
Fan Points is used by schools, which provide it to their students. Schools act on behalf of parents for students' use of the app, as is usual for school tools. For youth programs outside schools, children under 13 are added by a parent or guardian, with their consent recorded.
Security
Every action in the app is checked on the server. Staff see only what their role allows. Sign-in and check-in codes expire and can't be reused, and each school's install has its own private key. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe you have found a problem, please email us.
